How to Involve Your Mother in Law Part 2

Working with a mother in law is never easy, but it can be done! Here are some ways to involve your mother in law in the wedding planning:

  • Let her help you with the registry — She has furnished a home and raised children, so she definitely has a lot of experience with household items. She can help you select items you’ll actually need, and she may come in very handy to help you populate your wedding gift registry.
  • Shop together –– The mother of the bride is usually involved in the cake tasting and dress shopping outings, but you need to give the mother of the groom a chance to be involved as well. Perhaps she could come with you when you go shopping for decorations, or even when trying the catering menu.
  • Give her the rehearsal dinner –– This is a big task, and one that you probably don’t have the time to plan in addition to all the wedding stuff you’re dealing with. Giving this job to your mother in law will help her to feel useful, and will give her a chance to boss other people around. This is one of the best tasks for her!
  • Make sure the groom spends time with her –– One of the biggest complaints that mothers in law have is that they don’t get to spend enough time with their sons once they are stolen away by wives. During the wedding planning process, you can give your mother in law plenty of time with the groom. They can go out together, grab a meal, do wedding planning tasks together, and so on. It’s an easy way to get her off your back if you need a moment of peace, and it will make her happy.
