Marriage Red Flags Part 2

Marriage Red Flags Part 2

How can you know if your marriage is in for a rough patch? Here are a few marriage red flags to watch out for:

Totally different interests — Are you a comic book geek while she is a marathon runner? Are you a knitting nut while he prefers to re-build old cars? Everyone has their own interests, but it’s still important that you find a way to bring your hobbies and passions together. The more time you spend apart, the more time you may WANT to spend apart.

Serious personal issues -- Alcoholism, drug addiction, workaholism, uncontrolled anger, depression, and PTSD are just a few of the personal issues that can strain a marriage. They aren’t “deal-breakers”, but they can lead to some serious troubles as a couple. If your husband or wife develops these issues or can’t overcome them, it’s something to be aware of.

Too many breakups — How many times did you break up and get back together before you finally got married? If it’s more than one or two, it’s not a good sign. People who break up too often are showing that they have a tendency to quit when things get tough. That’s NOT a good sign for a marriage!

Too much baggage — Everyone comes with baggage, but there is such a thing as TOO MUCH.  If he/she can’t be happy with you because of something out of their past, it can put a serious strain on your marriage. Definitely a red flag!

Lying — Lying can be about the little things, but someone who lies about the little things tends to lie about the big things as well. Marriages are built on trust, and if you can’t be certain he/she is telling the truth, you’ll never be able to trust them!
