Wedding Vendor Negotiation 101

Wedding Vendor Negotiation 101

You’re going to spend a lot of money on your wedding, but how much do you NEED to spend? Use the wedding vendor negotiation tips below to help you slash prices and save on your wedding costs:

  • Book the venue for an off-season wedding. Prices are much more flexible during the slower months.
  • Book the venue in a shorter timeframe. With less time to plan, you have more leverage to negotiate with the venue.
  • Use your guest count to your advantage. With more guests coming, you are making the venue more money–thus they should be willing to cut costs a little.
  • Let them know why you want them. If your vendors know that they are your number one choice, they’ll be much more likely to drop the price a bit. Say something along the lines of, “I really want you to be my wedding vendor for X reason, but the price is just a bit too high.”
  • Give the vendors a chance to promote themselves. If vendors can use your wedding to promote their services online, via the newspaper, or in press releases, they’ll usually slash prices in exchange for a bit of publicity. After all, publicity is what gets them more clients in the future.
  • Ask for “recommendations”. If the vendor can “recommend” ways for you to keep the costs down, it’s the same as slashing prices! You’ll find that many vendors will actually help you cut costs with the other vendors, giving you tips and secrets that will help you save big all around.
  • Work with referrals. If your wedding planner or wedding venue is accustomed to working with certain vendors, they’ll usually be able to get a cheaper price thanks to that relationship. Definitely worth considering!
